The title above makes reference to a successful film named “The Merchant of Venice”. “The Merchant of Venice” is another of the masterpieces created by the famous writer, Shakespeare.
Furthermore, it is an interesting film which is about how discriminated by society Jewish people was in Venice, in the XVI century. Through this film you will be witness of how thirsty for vengeance a human being can be due to the big pain suffered by discrimination. Does human being’s thirst for vengeance have limits?
Moreover, while you are watching this film you will be capable to realize what the unfair restrictions that Jewish people were submitted to were and also, what they had to do to survive in a city which main religion was “Christianity”.
On the other hand, the film setting was very well prepared; the music and landscapes chosen to be used in this film were wonderful. Then, the atmosphere that this film is able to create; it will make you live an experience, that, I am sure, you have never lived before.
Another and highly important ingredient is the actors that made this incredible film possible. They did an excellent job. In my humble opinion the actors that worked and were part of “The Merchant of Venice” are some of the best actors of Hollywood. One of them is Al Pacino as Shylock (a Jewish man who is moneylender), and the other one is Jeremy Irons as Antonio (a Christian’s Venice that asked Shylock for money to help his best friend Bassanio (Joseph Fiennes)).
Even though, the role that the actresses, like Lynn Collins as Portia (a beautiful and intelligent woman that Bassanio fall in love with), Heather Goldenhersh as Nerissa (a woman who Portia trust the most and who is also Portia’s lady in waiting), and Zuleikha Robinson as Jessica (a lady who is Shylock’s daughter), played in this film has to do with the film epoch; I think that the actresses’ actuation was weak. They did not act bad but not well either. The actresses’ actuation could have been much better. The thing is that the actresses do not get close to the heart of the people who attend this film by their actuations as actors do.
Finally, if you want to see an interesting film instead of a boring and superficial one you should see “The Merchant of Venice” by Shakespeare. While and after watching this movie it will be hard for you to believe how big human stupidity could be and it will make you reflect about how absurd discrimination was, have been and is. Therefore, a film like “The Merchant of Venice” can not go unnoticed in front of your eyes; it will enrich your soul to make you a better human being.
